● PLY Wood

A ply refers to a layer of veneer stacked together to for a ply wood.

A ply consists of minimum of 3 layers and maximum of 5 or more depending on the required size.

  • Where is a ply wood used?

Ply wood is used for making long straight wooden products like tables, cupboards, bookshelves, wall panels, TV units, panelling designs and in all required interior works.

Important note: Ply wood has the tendency of bending, lengthy pieces are not recommended without support and it is not recommended to be used for the doors.

● Block Board

Block Board is a type of wood where the centre layer/core is made up of strips of soft wood.

Block boards are mainly used in making of beds, shelfs, tables, benches and used for interior and exterior works of the building.

Important Note: Since it is made of blocks the bending tendency is likely to be very low and is highly recommended to be used for the doors.

● MDF / Medium Dense Fibreboard

MDF is an engineering wood made with shavings of both hard and saw dust

MDF is commonly used for making furnitures, shelves, floorings and painted furnitures and used in industries to make speaker boxes.

 

MDF is light in weight and can be used for multipurpose. The name by itself defines that it is made of minute density of dust
and thickness.


Important Note: It is not preferable for wet area and lacks in screw holding capacity.

● HDHMR / High Density High Moisture Resistance

HDHMR is an engineering wood made with shavings of both hard and saw dust

It is the upgraded version of MDF, HDF and has excels in screw holding capacity and moisture resistant in nature.


Important Note: For shutters one can opt for HDHMR for its smooth finish and when you stick something over the top, especially when you use acrylic.

● Particle Board

Particle board is made up of saw dust and leftovers of wood, where the wood is mixed with resin and wood in order to produce an engineered wood known as Particle Board.

Particle board is used mainly in building temporary structure for shorter span because of their structure stability.

Important Note: Not recommended for durable products.

● Solid Wood

A solid wood is a term used to differentiate between normal lumber and engineering wood. A solid wood has a structure with no hollow space in the wood.

Solid wood is used for all types of wooden structures like furniture, tables, carvings, doors. Solid wood is durable and heavy in terms of its weight.

Mahogany, maple, Teak, walnut, rose wood, neem wood, pine wood, rubber wood

● WPC / Wood Plastic Compound

WPC is made of saw dust and plastic composites as binding agents.

WPC is good at weather resistance from sun, rain, snow hit from all the directions.

 

Characteristic is hybrid as it looks like wood and acts as plastic, hence it is commonly used as flooring, window frame, door frame.

 

WPCs are waterproof, termite proof, holds longer life span and low in maintenance and can be used both for interior and exterior purposes.

WPC are available in various colours, popularly used for vascal and wash room doors.

Types of Wooden Grade

BWP / Boiling Water Proof Grade

The plywood board with BWP mark are standard grade norms for plywood.The BWP grade wood is mainly used in making of cots, sofas, tables, chairsWardrobes, TV units and so on. BWP grade is water proof.

BWR / Boiling Water Resistant
This type of plywood is highly water resistance and can be used for office tables, home furnishings as the properties of the BWR grade wood is mainly water proof can be used for exteriors of the buildings.  
MR / Moisture resistant
This type of plywood is also known as Commercial Plywood, as the properties of this type of wood is moisture resistance and can be used in high humid places, and with this type of wood we can make cabinets, book shelfs, wardrobes, chairs and tables.
